Academic Programs:

We use a school cluster grouping model at our school. It takes into account the achievement levels of all students and places them in suitable groupings on an annual basis. This method helps facilitate teachers’ differentiation of curriculum and instruction for all students and increases student achievement. The goal is to limit each class to no more than three levels of achievement (based on the research of Dr. Marcia Gentry). For math and reading instruction in grades 1-5, students are grouped with teachers who correspond to their grade level based on current performance levels and growth. Instructing students at similar levels with challenging curricula encourages academic gain.

Aspen Ridge is a public charter school serving kindergarten through 8th grade, with a private preschool program. The Founders of the Aspen Ridge Preparatory School envision a community of students, teachers, parents, and administrators collaborating to create a rigorous, content-rich learning environment that fosters a lifelong love of learning and gives students a solid base of knowledge to compete in a global society. Students will participate in successful, research-based curricula in the core content areas along with a focus on technology, international experience, natural environment, personal development, and enrichment programs. Students will be encouraged to think independently and question the world around them. Ongoing assessment of the students, both formally and informally, will take place regularly to ensure individual student goals are attained by adapting instruction appropriately. We are a school that is committed to small class sizes, which allows us to meet the needs of each student. At ARPS, each student has a personalized education plan, updated annually, to reflect academic and behavioral goals focused on each student's needs. We pride ourselves on our low student to teacher ratio in each class, which fosters strong relationships. Everyone at ARPS has a name and is "known." No one is invisible here.

This is a hybrid model that brings together traditional aspects of SVVSD curriculum with more innovative and cutting-edge practices that are designed to prepare students for the jobs of the future. Each of these project-based activities are rooted in the standards and will complement core instruction, but can be a stand-alone module.
